This is the highest distinction offered by the Atmospheric Sciences in Europe. The medal was named after <span class=\"x_spelle\">Vilhelm<\/span> <span class=\"x_spelle\">Bjerknes<\/span> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.egu.eu\/awards-medals\/portrait-vilhelm-bjerknes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-ogsc=\"\">https:\/\/www.egu.eu\/awards-medals\/portrait-vilhelm-bjerknes\/<\/a>), whom lead the theoretical foundations of weather prediction and made groundbreaking contributions in all areas of atmospheric science (including cloud formation!).<\/p>\n<p>The medal will be given this year during the EGU Annual Assembly in April, in a special ceremony organized by the Atmospheric Sciences Division. Because of the COVID situation, there will be webcasting of the event.<\/p>\n<p>We should also remember that Maria Kanakidou is the 2016 (and only one of two female) recipients of the medal.
